jack of all trades master of none

Del Colliano nails it again - "Apple devices and cool cell phones are not a radio – not a “CD” player but a gateway to on-demand entertainment."

Honestly, I don’t usually post Jerry’s stuff here that often because its geared towards people who are (like me) radio geeks… a very small percentage of my followers.

But this one just absolutely nails it. Again.  The Big Four haven’t gotten it through their heads that the new way to market products is on-demand - look at the App Store vs retail, Netflix vs Blockbuster, Steam vs physical copies.  In each case, the successful one of the pair has found a way to make their products digitally buyable (with varying degrees of DRM, but that’s another post).

Streaming, personalized, and on-demand is the way of the future.  Even a band like Ok Go totally gets that; they’ve made a big name for themselves with viral music videos that are… free. And on demand. For everyone.  In fact, they left EMI and started their own label because EMI, as expected, didn’t get that the boost in the band’s profile was caused by this on demand nature.
